Our Speaker: Herbalist Heather Bedford
The Northern Neck Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society will be holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 20 at the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock beginning at noon. Everyone is welcome to this free program. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack to eat, meet and greet Chapter members and members of the public. Light refreshments will be available. The Native Plant of the Month will be presented along with a brief outline of the Chapter’s upcoming programs and field trips. At 12:30 the monthly program will begin on “Native Medicinal Plants of the Northern Neck” presented by Heather Bedford, a Functional Holistic Wellness Practitioner.
As a wellness practitioner, Heather specializes in phytotherapy and nature connections with over 35 years of plant study and 25 years of experience offering consultations and herbal education. A native to Westmoreland County, she practices bioregional folk herbalism blending the Wise Woman Tradition and Western Eclecticism. As a certified Virginia Master Naturalist with the Northern Neck Chapter, Heather actively volunteers to help restore our native environment and to reconnect others to the natural world, believing that nature connection facilitates deep healing.
The Virginia Native Plant Society (VNPS) was founded in 1982 and is composed of 12 chapters throughout the
Commonwealth. It is dedicated to the preservation of the native plants of Virginia and their habitats, in order to sustain for generations to come the integrity of the Commonwealth’s rich natural heritage of ecosystems and biodiversity for purposes of enjoyment, enlightenment, sustainable use, and our own very survival.
